Welcome to the new home of Harpur's Ferry, Binghamton University's Student Volunteer Ambulance Service. Harpur's Ferry SVAS is a New York State Certified ALS agency of 150 student, alumni, and community members.
Harpur's Ferry Ambulance was founded in 1973, and has grown significantly over the years. Nearly 40 years later, Harpur's Ferry operates 24/7 hours a day, year round. Our agency covers approximately 900 calls per year, serving Binghamton University students, faculty, and staff, in addition to providing mutual aid to the surrounding region at no charge to patients. All care is provided by New York State Emergency Medical Technicians, Critical Care Technicians, or Paramedics with the assistance of in-training EMTs.
Harpur's Ferry has been recognized locally, state wide, and nationally. Local media have offered praise over the years for our dedicated service, and Harpur's Ferry was named New York State EMS Agency of the Year in 2005. The National Collegiate EMS Foundation (NCEMSF) similarly recognized Harpur's Ferry Ambulance as the 2005-2006 Agency of the Year in recognition of outstanding service. Our agency was also awarded first place in the NCEMSF Advanced Life Support Skills competition 2005-2008.
Our agency is dedicated to providing 24/7 quality medical care to the community, and subsequently works to train members to the highest standards with the most up to date equipment and experienced educators and providers. We recruit new members at the beginning of each semester through an in depth application and interview process. Applications are open to those with no experience as well as to those who maintain current certifications.
